The world of MythWatch
Earth, 21st century. The world knows many stories that humans have forgotten. There are people out there with the hidden ability to find those secrets. Myths, legends, and sagas are far more than beautiful tales to these individuals; they are windows into the past. In the world of MythWatch, you are one of these Mythmakers. You possess the rare ability to travel through time simply by touching ancient relics.
Every story is a mirror that teaches us something about ourselves and the world. The organization you are part of, the Mythwatch, believes humanity is doomed to repeat the same mistakes if these lessons are lost. Your task is to journey to different ages, experience myths first hand, and preserve the stories.
The Archive
The Mythwatch headquarters is called the Archive, a mysterious building that exists outside of time. Mythmakers gather here to discuss and to organize, monitor, and protect the various myths. It is unknown how many Mythmakers exist. Some discover their ability to travel through time at a young age. Others discover much later in life that they have a strong connection to this power.
Within the Mythwatch, no one can decide for another Mythmaker what they must do. However, more experienced Mythmakers can become mentors for those who have only just discovered their power.
The Organisation
Unfortunately, Mythwatch is not the only group that knows the paths through time. As Mythwatch works to preserve for the greater good, there are others who seek to change history. Some of them alter stories out of ignorance, because they do not yet understand the consequences of their actions. Others do so deliberately for personal gain. But the greatest threat? A mysterious society simply called: the Organization.
Their true motivation is a mystery, but their traces are visible throughout the timeline. They are responsible for the disappearance of countless stories, potentially causing crucial lessons to be lost forever. As soon as there are signs of sabotage by the Organization, Mythmakers are sent out to intervene. Today, it is your team’s turn.
The Origins
The shepherd
Villagers in Frisia had a strong sense of community. Dogs also played a major role in this! Together, they survived wild animals and the tides of the sea.
The thief
In Redbad’s time, there was a strong sense of honour. Committing a crime could mean losing a great deal. The Lex Frisionum describes how most crimes could be atoned for by compensation and how one’s honour could be restored.
The princess
Noble warriors could swear allegiance to the king. The symbol of this was the ring fastened to your sword. You would then serve and fight for your king, and your king would look after you and your people.
The merchant
Trade flourished during Redbad’s reign. Goods sometimes came from far afield, and Frisia was also renowned for a number of high-quality products! In those days, people paid with small coins barely the size of your fingertip: the so-called sceatta.
The bard
In Redbad’s time, the Frisians did not write down their stories, but passed them down orally. The legends we do know about this period were not recorded until much later, by people with different beliefs and convictions.
The seer
The Frisians in Redbad’s time believed in gods such as Woden. This belief was inextricably linked to their daily lives, for example in their rituals. Religious leaders must therefore have been very important.
The analyst
With laptop in hand, the Analyst is always on the lookout for more information, clearly someone of the modern age. As an Analyst, you can easily make sense of even the most complicated matters.
The builder
As a Builder, you’d prefer to get straight to work. If you spot a problem, you’ll already be looking around for the materials you need to build a solution.
The narrator
The Narrator believes that stories are the most important thing in the world. Stories from every era and every place are valuable. Whether you’re reading, telling or listening: those stories make us who we are.
