Snake

Mythological animal

Bracteate are a type pendant found in Frisia from the 5th century on. They often show snake-like creatures, presumably the high god Woden transformed into an animal. It was his way to enter the underworld, where he contacted ghosts and his ancestors.

But the snake is also thematically important in Christianity, where snakes are the personification of evil. In the bible, a snake tempts Adam and Eve to from the apple of Eden, bringing about the Fall of Man. As such, the snake has a prolific place in both the Frisians and the Christians during the age of Redbad.
