Wursing

We know little of Wursing for certain. He is mostly known as the great father of Liudger, who would go on to play an important role in the Christianisation of Frisia.

Around 708 CE, Wursing, an influential Frisian nobleman and judge, was accused of treason by King Redbad. Whether the accusation was founded is unknown. Some historians speculate Redbad may have used the threat of war to rob many powerful nobles of their belongings, while other sources refuse to provide a definitive reason.

Wursing managed to flee to Frankia with his wife Adelgarda and their son Nothgrim, where the Frankish steward Grimoald the Younger offered them asylum. Years later, Redbad tried to reconcile with Wursing, inviting him to return home. Wursing declined the offer himself, but sent his son back, who went on to join Redbad's court. Why Wursing didn't go back himself is unknown. He only returned after Redbad's death.
