Theudesinde
Daughter of a king
We know with certainty Redbad had at least 1 child; a daughter named Theudesinde or Thiadsvind. She ended up marrying Grimoald, son of Pepijn, likely a political marriage to solidify peace between the Frisians and Franks. The marriage lasted only 3 years, cut short by the murder of Grimoald (the murderer unknown). It is unknown whether Theudesinde had any children herself.
We have no idea what Theudesinde must have looked like, but this picture shows what women of importance may have looked like. A silk headdress (an expensive material), red and blue colours (expensive colours to make), a ribbon braided into the hair, and most importantly: a fibula. Fibulae are a type of brooch, very popular in early medieval Frisia, and worn exclusively by women. Researchers suspect they expressed the wearer's group identity and faith. This suggests women were the bearers of Frisian identity.
Theudesinde's fibula in the picture is based on the Domburgfibula. It is not just of notable size and value, but elaborately decorated as well. The kidney-shaped ends show stylized raven beaks, as well as high god Woden's moustache.
In MythWatch; the Age of Redbad, Theudesinde is depicted with two ravens. It symbolizes her connection to Frisia and the religion she grew up in. She has the unique position of being able to look back at what her father build, only to see the kingdom of Frisia diminish. Players in the game might meet and talk to her. Could she perhaps shine some light on what kind of man her father was?
